Chicken Shack Cole Slaw Recipe: A Secret Blend of Cabbage, Carrots and Dressing



There are so many different flavors and ways to make coleslaw. This variation is for traditional creamy coleslaw, the kind that has just a touch of sweetness, a little tang and dripping with creamy goodness.


When Chick-fil-A removed their famous Chick-fil-A creamy coleslaw from the menu, they decided to provide the recipe for all to enjoy. There was such a backlash regarding the removal of this coleslaw from the Chick-fil-A menu that some restaurants have added it back. But at least Chick-fil-A gave us the next best thing, a way to make their famous Chick-fil-A creamy coleslaw at home.




Chicken Shack Cole Slaw Recipe



The actual Chick-fil-A creamy coleslaw recipe calls for 20 ounces finely shredded cabbage and add 1/4 cup chopped carrots. I like buying the diced Southern style coleslaw mix because it gives a crunchier slaw and already has the carrots in the mix.


Always love KFC coleslaw. I finally made this for a family gathering. Everyone including my boyfriend loved and enjoyed it. The best. I served it with barbecue, baked beans and fresh fruit. Thank you for sharing. I love and enjoy to cook, grill and bake. I rate this recipe with 5 stars.


The seasonings in this crack slaw recipe are simple but just make the whole dish come alive. I used a little olive oil to cook the onions, but then seasoned the whole dish with soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar and sriracha.


This was so good!!! I used a bag of pre-shredded broccoli slaw mix for convenience, otherwise followed the recipe exactly. Took barely 15 minutes to make lunches for the whole week, I put it into wraps and it was amazing! Even my picky boyfriend loved it and wants to take it for lunch now too. Sure! The only ingredients that will count towards the Points are the chicken, soy sauce, vinegar, sriracha sauce, olive oil, and sesame oil. Using the labels on the back of each of those items, I added up all the nutritional info, and my totals are posted at the bottom of the recipe. I entered those totals into my calculator to get the Points value.


Johnnie's customer Vic Rash believes Raphaelson has gotten the recipe right. "The chicken is really good. I eat chicken all the time. Good job," he says as he stands in the Concord Pike eatery's dining room and pats Raphaelson on the back.


But, the late Harry W. Sheppard's wife and business partner Symanthia Lynch-Sheppard, who has not tasted Johnnie's chicken but says she has heard from customers who have purchased it, is adamant this is not the original recipe.


Sheppard once told The News Journal he came up with the chicken recipe by adapting his grandmother Anna Brown's technique for cooking rabbit. Yet, when pushed for more details, Sheppard turned coy."The chicken is marinated before it is cooked," he said. The types of spices used were a well-kept Walt's secret.


Lynch-Sheppard says "numerous others" have tried to recreate her husband's fried chicken. While she acknowledges one of the former Walt's cooks does work at Johnnie's, she doesn't believe they're using the same recipe that Sheppard used.


Raphaelson says making fried chicken like Walt's on Vandever Avenue is a process. "The marinade is super potent and the breading is potent. The timing of everything has to be exact. It's so sensitive," he says of the recipe he uses. 2ff7e9595c
